Bored and alone, I'd considered exploring the grounds of the Catalpa Academy. My first thought was to go explore outside of the buildings and stables and head to outer Grantbury on my 'trusty steed'. Ridge certainly had different ideas though, I couldn't even coax him out of his new stable and so a little fed up of each other already, I'd left the horse alone and gone to explore around the Academy. Only that idea had gone down the drain as well. I'd gotten fed up of trailing around in circles as I attempted to find my way through the strange corridors and so I'd eventually found the main entrance and decided to sit outside on the edge of the fountain. It was cold out here, and I was simply thankful that I hadn't found my way to the dorms in order to get rid of my jacket. I'd be frozen now otherwise. I gave a small sigh and lifted my gaze to the horse and man statue and wondered what had gotten into Ridge. My first meeting with him had been fine, so to speak. It had been odd talking to a horse but we had gotten along in some sort of way, apart from him calling me a Mouse, I hadn't found that as entertaining as he had. But when I'd tried to take him out earlier he'd been fairly quiet and certainly hadn't wanted to go for a ride, even the idea of it had been pretty appalling for him. 'We'll sort things out' I thought simply turning my gaze to the ground at my feet. I figured that it had something to do with his past or training, after all the instructor had warned me he might be difficult when I'd told her. Yet I hadn't cared then, I shouldn't care now. I didn't care now, it was just a little odd really, it would just take some getting used to.

My fingers were a little numb and my maroon scarf was blowing around my face. There was really nothing that I could do except take a walk. All I could do was wander around and shake off my restlessness. I guess that I'll head on over to the Main Buildings to see if anything is happening.
My feet carried my sluggy, slightly confused body over to the large brick buildings. My thoughts worked their way to the events of the day. I met my roomate, hopefully we'll be good friends. I found my horse for life. Scary thought. Rosco would probably hurt me later for this. A small giggle escaped my ashy rosy lips. The cold is horrible. When I went to the beach with Rosco, I met Steve, an older guy. He seemed nice. Gah! Focus!!! If you lose focus, you'll fall and bust your butt!
I had almost gotten to the buildings when I saw a girl looking at the famous statue. She seemed cold even though she wore a jacket. All in all, she looked nice and really cold. Gathering what bit of warmth I had left in me, I strolled over to talk to her.
Umm...hi there. You look a bit cold. I'm Rachel Corrigan. I just started here. I outstretched my hand for it to shook and waited to see what would happen.

I lifted my head as I heard the approaching steps and looked up at the girl now stood before me. She was around my age, or at least looked it anyway and her hand was outstretched as she introduced herself. I smiled back and accepted the hand, shaking lightly. "A little" I stated, nodding my head and trying my best not to shiver. I probably should have gone inside, but had gotten fed up of getting lost. Outdoors had seemed quite appealing until I realised how cold it was. "I'm Kathleen Hartley, just started as well." I introduced myself. I wondered whether I should explain myself, and the reasons why I was sat out here despite being evidently cold, but felt slightly shy and decided against explaining my silly reasons. Rachel seemed nice enough and I was certainly glad that someone had decided to speak to me, though I wasn't sure how much I wanted to say, not that I was being rude, just my usual quiet self.

Something inside me said that Kathleen was really nice so I decided to be equally nice and not ask why she was sitting outside in the cold. It's freezing out here! Why on earth would someone sit out here?! Oh wait, I'm out here! Okay, We're both new here and I've gotten lost three times now. Which way is it to the dorms again? Left, right, right, left, right. Yea that sounds good to me. Hey umm...I think I saw a coffee cart somewhere near the dorms, ya want a cup? Or do you prefer tea? I'm sorry, I'm thinking warmth right now.
I looked up, marvelling in the site of the statue. Each muscle firm and stressed. Each part in proportion. It looked amazing, especially with the lights outside shining on it. The brick pavement glittered under the flourescent lightbulbs. The many bushes that all schools seem to overdo on since it adds a "homeliness" to the campus were lit up for some odd reason. My gaze drifting around, my thoughts thumped on towards how much I already loved this place. The friendliness of everyone, the hope resting in every hall, the happiness I felt just thikning about riding again. It all rested lightly on my warming shoulders.

I gave another smile and nodded my head at the idea, it certainly was a good one and I really could do with the warmth and maybe some sort of help finding my way around. I couldn't remember the way to the dorms at all when I'd been there briefly this morning to drop my stuff off before heading back to the stables. "Don't worry about it" I said as she apologised. "Warmth certainly does sound good."
With that, I pushed myself up onto my feet leaving that slightly warmed patch to go back to how cold it had been before I decided to sit down, and glanced towards the doors of the entrance hall. I almost felt a tug to run inside, now I was awoken from my thoughts, I was becoming aware of just how freezing it was out here. 'And Rachel stopped to talk to me out here why?' I couldn't work out that question, but of course I was thankful that she had otherwise I might have become another statue for the fountain.
I turned back to face Rachel again, recalling what had brought me here in the first place; that I'd gotten lost. I certainly didn't fancy that again and simply hoped that she knew the way. "Umm... Sorry, I think you'll need to lead" I began simply and gestured towards the door for her to move when she was ready. "I really don't know my way around here."

Just standing there, my nose and fingers were beginning to go numb from the cold. I was still trying to figure out how to get back. When Kathleen stood up from the fountain, she looked even colder. Umm... Sorry, I think you'll need to lead.I really don't know my way around here.
[/i] Something about her looked nervous and a little worried. The sky was just dark enough that the lights had to be on but you could still see. That's okay Kathleen. I'm pretty sure I remember where that coffee cart is. I tried to give her a happy smile as I began to walk away from the building, toward where I should have been able to fins the coffee cart. I looked over at the frozen girl. COOOOFFFFEEEEEEE! COOOOOFFFFFFFFFFFEEEEEEE! My mind was buzzing with the idea of warmth from coffee. Cemon, I'm fairly sure that it's this way. Now if they ain't open, I know that there's a coffee machine in the dorm.[/blockquote]

I stood there waiting, trying not to shiver or focus on the cold, though I didn't think it was working at all. 'Never thought I'd say I miss English weather' I mused for a moment, before Rachel spoke again and I turned to face the other girl. "That's okay Kathleen. I'm pretty sure I remember where that coffee cart is." I nodded lightly in response and smiled back as I shoved my hands into my pockets and began to follow her as she led the way to this coffee cart. "Cemon, I'm fairly sure that it's this way. Now if they ain't open, I know that there's a coffee machine in the dorm." She spoke again and for a second I was worried that she was nearly as confused by this place as I was. But then to be truthful I wasn't bothered, as long as I found the way to warmth and found any type of hot drink, I'd feel better and then probably concentrate a little more.

I wandered my way, following my mental directions, to the glorious coffee cart. The scent of different coffees, hot chocolate, and quick pastries. I looked back to see Kathleen following, slightly nervous that I wasn't sure where I was going.
COOFFFFFEEEEEE! WOOHOO! What kinda coffee ya want? My treat. I looked over at Kathleen and smiled. My sight drifted back to the poor guy standing at the cart who was waiting for orders. Umm...I think I'll take a....hmm...a mocha cappachino. While the guy started my order, we both waited for Kathleen's orders.

I was relieved to see the coffee cart once we arrived, and by the sounds of things I wasn't the only one. I laughed a little at Rachel's enthusiasm and for a moment wondered whether giving this girl coffee was a good idea, any type of caffeine actually. "What kinda coffee ya want? My treat." I was quite shocked by this gesture, she'd known me for about five minutes and here she was offering to buy me a drink. "Are you sure?" I asked, a little unsure about letting her pay for it. I knew I'd probably end up feeling guilty about it. "Thank you" I smiled back and then glanced to the menu reading the drinks that were available. "I think I'll join you with that mocha." I stated, turning back to Rachel again as the guy went off to sort out my drink. "Thanks again Rachel" I said, as my drink was placed on the counter beside Rachel's and the guy set about the totals. "For the drink and bringing me in before I froze. Next time though, I insist on buying the drinks." I said with another smile.
